The Wildlife Trade around the Prey Lang Area in Cambodia

Phnom Penh, Cambodia- 14th September 2023

The Cambodian Youth Network Association (CYN) is pleased to announce that on September 15th, 2023, it will be hosting a presentation of the investigation report’s findings on “The Wildlife Trade around Prey Lang Area in Cambodia” and a discussion on community concerns. The event will take place from 9 am to 12 pm at the Sunway Hotel in Phnom Penh and is open to national and international journalists, institutions, partners, and the public.

Please note that over a period of three months commencing on August 25th, 2023, our research team has discovered instances of illegal sale of wildlife meat and conservation fish in 57 samples/locations surrounding protected natural resources in northern and northeastern Cambodia. The research team conducted six random investigations to gather data on trading activities, including the sale of wildlife meat and conservation fish in restaurants and tourist areas in Kratie, Stung Treng, Preah Vihear, Kampong Thom, Siem Reap, and Oddar Meanchey. Over the course of 90 days, the team collected 34 samples of wildlife meat and identified 11 restaurant locations and 2 resorts that sell such meat. Additionally, they identified five species of conservation fish, 12 of which were found mainly in the provinces along the Mekong River, namely Stung Treng and Kratie.

We kindly request the participation of national and international journalists, institutions, partners, and the public in the inquiry to obtain comprehensive information on the matter at hand.
