Ms. Orn Srey Len is a 17-year-old girl born in Angkor Ban 4 village, Angkor Ban 4 commune, Kang Meas district, Kampong Cham province, the only daughter in a middle-class family. Srey Len graduated from high school in 2022. She is a girl who is curious about the history and issues in the country. Even though she is young, she is a girl who knows social issues and see social issues since she was in high school. At that time, Srey Len realized that the main problem of the society was corruption, however, due to her lack of courage, Srey Len did not dare to express her opinion to others.

After graduating from high school, Srey Len went to study at a university in Phnom Penh, at the same time she studied computer science at CYN Learning & Employment Center of the Cambodian Youth Network Association for three months to study basic computer skills Office. During her computer training period, Srey Len applied for an internship with CYN in the Research and Advocacy Program from May 2023, the time that Srey Len had the opportunity to learn and strengthen her skills. Understanding human rights, environmental rights and participation in promoting social justice in Cambodia.

When Srey Len was an intern with CYN from May to December 2023, Srey Len​​​ was actively involved in learning about office work and working directly with CYN Target group. Srey Len learned from the CYN project team on communication skills, project planning, conceptual documentation for the event, and made significant contributions to CYN events. Such as the Cambodian Youth Forum, the Cambodian Young Human Rights Defenders Forum, the petition for a cycling campaign to end violence against women and girls.

 

Through internships, Srey Len gained many valuable skills and experiences, including how to report, how to work effectively in teamwork, build relationships with youth and activists, problem solving skills, and coordinate youth mobilization activities. In addition, Srey Len gained work experience in facilitating the implementation of the projects, which encouraged her to become more of a leader and build positive relationships during activities. This internship also helps Sreylen to know her strengths and weaknesses.

Joining with CYN has made Srey Len more aware of social issues, rights and role in the exercise of fundamental rights and freedoms, participation in the protection of natural resources and the promotion of social justice. Srey Len has been active in organizing and implementing her rights demanding government terminate wood export license, join the Campaign to End Violence against Women and Girls and Respect for Human Rights in Cambodia.

Srey Len is a girl with leadership. She is easy to adapt to the people around her, likes to explore new things to develop herself and find out who she really is and what she really wants. She always tries her best to participate in activities for the cause of the motherland because she believes that her voice, along with other young people, will bring a positive change for this society. The courage of young people to exercise their rights is a fundamental aspect of advocating for human rights towards social justice. Srey Len aims to contribute to the building of a society with educated young people and to promote the full exercise of rights to promote human rights, human dignity and better social justice.
